PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL
Program Description:
This program is for middle school students to address the growing problem of bullying and its impact on students.
Why Now:
According to the Centers of Disease Control, 1 in 3 adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence and 1 in 10 high school students has been purposefully hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend, girlfriend or partner.
Program Methods:
Through an interactive approach students begin to see the importance of respect, responsibility and relationships when dealing with others. Though facilitated discussion students will be able to identify what bullying is, how it feels, and what it looks like. This 40 minute program contains an active learning component that brings to life the three major concepts of respect, responsibility and relationships. Age-appropriate strategies for intervention are discussed
Note: The presentations are designed to foster discussion and interaction within the safety of the classroom. Each presentation is facilitated by a male & female which role model respectful and healthy relationship(s).
